Hello!  I’m Michelle Holmes and I’m The Make IT Happen Mummy Mentor.  I’m passionate about supporting both established and aspiring work at home mums, WAHM or Mumpreneurs (whatever term you like to use for the growing movement of mums who are working from home) to Make IT Happen!

Now ‘IT’ stands for ‘Incredible Things’ and that means something different to each person!

Sometimes ‘IT’ is making enough extra money for a dream family holiday or a wedding in Spain… sometimes ‘IT’ is conceiving, giving birth to, nurturing and growing your ultimate ‘business baby’ – one that supports your ultimate lifestyle goals and allows you to make a positive difference in the world at the same time!

Sometimes ‘IT’ is about finding the courage to REALLY shine your light… whatever ‘IT’ is for you, if you’re a mum or a mum to be, I’d be so honoured to help you Make IT Happen!

There’s a story behind how I came to do what I do today and I hope it’s ok if I share that with you now?

It all started around 2 years ago when I was on benefits and living on a diet consisting largely of beans on toast.  My husband Pip and I had spent the last few years in a kind of limbo period, feeling lost and unsure of how to get ourselves out of the hole we were in.

You see, Pip had been made bankrupt a few years earlier when our son was just 2 months old and we had lost everything.  Our home, our car, the business my husband used to run.  The lot.  It was a really hard time and I’m not going to beat around the bush here, life was really DARK for a while there in many ways!

Becoming a mother was a huge growth period for me, not just physically (lol) but in the way I view life.  My kids made me want to create a great life, not just a better one… but the GREATEST one possible, and so I decided I was going to start my own business and Make IT Happen!

I set up shop as a Social Media Manager because I’d had some “accidental success” in this area around 6 years ago when I sold over £10k worth of 5 unknown artists artwork in 30 minutes… by accident…  due to using MySpace which was the social network of the moment (it’s a looonng story that I’ll share another time but ask me on Facebook or Twitter if you want to know more about it and I’ll gladly tell you it :)

I found the support I needed to become my own boss initially through Nigel Botterill’s Entrepreneurs Circle, a local, national and online network of some of the most forward thinking business owners in the UK.  Nigel is an incredible chap whose no nonsense, tough love approach to business was exactly the kick up the backside I needed at that time and he made me realise for the first time that I COULD achieve anything I wanted to achieve in my business if I was willing to think smart and knuckle down and JUST DO IT.

I really enjoy making new connections and forming friendships with people and I also love designing creative strategies that bring the online and offline worlds together in fully integrated Social Marketing Strategies.   I approached Nigel and landed him as one of my first clients and working for such a prolific entrepreneur gave me a platform.  I was regularly attracting new clients and I very quickly built up a pretty reasonable income that allowed my husband to stay home and look after the kids and I was getting great results for my clients.

You’d think I’d have been happy wouldn’t you?  Well, in many ways I was, but there was something that wasn’t quite right!  You see I wasn’t getting to spend enough time being a mummy or a wife which are the top priorities for me.  I was spending all my time ‘locked away’ in my office (aka the spare room) in front of a computer screen growing other people’s businesses and not growing my own!  I was having to turn away business from people I really wanted to work with too because I’d hit a ceiling with what it was physically possible for me to manage in the model I was in.

 

That’s when I realised there had to be a better way to run my business and I was determined to find it and Make IT Happen!

I made the decision to create new ways to share everything I learn about social marketing with more people instead of limiting myself to just a handful of clients.  That was when I created my very first Info Product which was the beginning of a whole new world for me… one in which I could serve more people and help them to make their difference by harnessing the power of online and offline social marketing.

These days I spend lots of time creating products that help difference makers (especially work at home mothers) to make their difference.  Some I deliver online (through my products) and others are delivered face to face in person (through events and workshops).
